Key Stage 3

Key Stage 3 (Year 7 – Year 9: Age 11-15)

Key Stage 3 is the first three years of secondary school education for pupils aged 11 to 15.

The term is used to define the group of pupils who must follow the relevant programmes of study. All pupils in this Key Stage must follow a programme of education in the nine areas of learning in the curriculum, some of which include specific subject strands.

In Key Stage 3, students are encouraged to extend themselves academically and socially. They have their tuition lessons with specialist teachers. The aim of the Key Stage 3 programme is to provide students with a wide variety of experiences, to provide an environment whereby they can learn to become responsible independent learners, and of course to provide them with a solid academic base from which to commence their two-year IGCSE programme in Year 10.
