Merdeka Day has a much deeper significance than merely the commemoration of independence. Itwas a good opportunity to teach our children about Malaysia’s route to success – its struggles, progress and unity. Students had a fun day; having learned to march for the first time, singing the national and state anthems, reciting the national pledge and ‘Rukun Negara’, as well as students’ performances and singing a number of patriotic songs.
