Axcel Primary Curriculum

Primary school years are the fundamental years to develop foundational literacy, numeracy as well as social and emotional skills. An education that is holistic, creative and flexible is the avenue to success in the fundamental years of children, preparing them to be academically, socially, emotionally and digitally competent for life.

The tagline for our Primary School of “A.S.K beyond basic foundation” represent our focus beyond the 3R of Reading, aRithmetic and wRiting. At Axcel International School, we strongly advocate developing the right Attitude, while acquiring Skills essential in a fast-changing world and always eager to gain new Knowledge.

In light of this, we integrate both the Cambridge curriculum and the Singapore curriculum to provide a broad, balanced and progressive education for our students. Each lesson content of these curricula is well-designed and well-organised with creative activities to guide students step-by-step in their learning journey. Both the curricula are also constantly adapting the lessons to be flexible for teachers to conduct and differentiate the lessons for diverse learning abilities in the classroom. Both the curricula provide active learning experiences for our students to interact and bond with others. Therefore, it is common to find discussions on worldwide topics and critical thinking on lesson topics, despite the ages and abilities of the students. We are thus striving to develop our students’ passion for life-long learning.

Holistic Assessment

We believe learning flourishes with holistic assessment as part in a child’s learning journey. We adopt different forms of assessment throughout our classes, to make an informed progress of each student. One of which is formative assessment. It is an ongoing assessment throughout the year to help students identify their strengths and areas for improvement, and teachers could then constantly address any challenges faced by the students. Thus, interactive activities such as answering questions on the whiteboard, group discussions to raise questions and show understanding of a topic are common in our classrooms. Also, not to forget we take up summative assessment as well. With this assessment, we evaluate student learning at the end of a unit in different ways which includes quizzes and projects other than the usual final exam. Finally, observation is permeated throughout our lessons and assessments. Adding observation into the paper assessment, we acquire a more complete progress of our students. In addition, we have a system of positive behaviour management in place to reward positive behaviour and address disruptive behaviour, motivating them to lead an excellent life by independently displaying positive values and character.

Axcel Primary Programmes

Axcel Primary Programmes are designed to nurture well-rounded children who are also morally, socially and emotionally competent. ‘Character determines success’ is firmly believed in at our school. Character First is a programme that stresses character building and emotional management. Financial Intelligence exposes our students to the invention of money and the business world, guiding them to be financially ethical. Little Scientist is another amazing programme, not only to introduce STEM but most importantly to instill patience and determination in all explorations. Also, in ‘Everyone can Present’, all students are encouraged to present in various class assignments to boost their confidence in speaking confidently to wider audience.

All in all, these endeavours are made to create opportunities for our students to practice the knowledge, core values and skills that they acquire in school, and receive immediate responses to their attitude and behaviour. This is all because we aspire to inspire our students throughout their fundamental years with a holistic, creative and flexible education!

At our school, we prioritise Positive Behaviour Management, creating a supportive and nurturing environment where students thrive both academically and personally. Little Scientist

Our Little Scientist program is designed to ignite a passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education among our primary students. Through hands-on experiments, interactive projects, and engaging lessons, we cultivate curiosity and critical thinking skills. This program encourages young learners to explore the wonders of the natural world, understand scientific principles, and develop problem-solving abilities. By fostering a love for STEM subjects early on, we aim to inspire the next generation of innovators, thinkers, and leaders, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to excel in an increasingly technological world.

Rising Star

Our Rising Star program is dedicated to showcasing the diverse talents of our primary students and encouraging participation in various interests beyond academics. Through this program, we provide a platform for students to explore and excel in areas such as arts, music, sports, drama, and public speaking. By celebrating their unique abilities and fostering a well-rounded development, we aim to boost their confidence, enhance their social skills, and nurture their passions. The Rising Star program ensures that every student has the opportunity to shine and discover their full potential, contributing to a vibrant and dynamic school community.

Financial Intelligence

We place a strong emphasis on fostering financial literacy among our primary students. We believe that understanding financial concepts from an early age is crucial for developing responsible and informed future citizens. Our engaging and age-appropriate financial literacy programs teach students essential skills such as saving, budgeting, and making informed spending decisions.

By integrating financial education into our curriculum, we empower our students with the knowledge and confidence to navigate their financial futures successfully. Team Building

Our Team Building Day for primary students is a cornerstone of our commitment to fostering collaboration, communication, and camaraderie among our young learners. Through a variety of fun and interactive activities, students engage in problem-solving tasks, group challenges, and cooperative games that promote teamwork and build strong interpersonal skills. This special day is designed to help students appreciate the value of working together, develop leadership abilities, and create lasting friendships. By emphasising the importance of unity and collective effort, our Team Building Day prepares students to succeed in both their academic and personal lives.

Team Building Day fosters effective collaboration among the students besides honing their interpersonal skills such as communication, leadership, and motivation. The various activities carried out during Team Building Day required teamwork among the students in order to complete some challenging tasks, hence developing their communicational skills, in addition to enhancing morale and productivity. Students also benefited through experiencing a sense of accomplishment in completing these challenging tasks successfully.

Public Speaking

At Axcel Primary School, the public speaking program is designed to help students build confidence and refine their communication skills through a variety of engaging activities. These include debate sessions, where students learn to structure arguments and present ideas persuasively, fostering critical thinking and teamwork. Puppet story-telling allows students to explore creative narratives while expressing themselves through characters, improving both their verbal and non-verbal communication. Drama sessions offer a dynamic platform for students to perform and collaborate, enhancing their ability to convey emotions and ideas effectively. Additionally, choral speaking activities encourage group coordination and emphasize the importance of vocal expression, articulation, and rhythm. Through these diverse activities, students not only improve their public speaking but also develop essential life skills such as collaboration, self-confidence, and creative expression.

Environmental Awareness

In our Axcel Primary school, we believe that fostering a love for the environment is essential for our young learners. During our Environmental Awareness Day, primary students dive into hands-on activities that promote sustainability and ecological understanding. From planting pot plants around the school to creating vibrant terrariums, students engage directly with nature while learning about diverse ecosystems.

These interactive experiences not only enhance their environmental knowledge but also cultivate teamwork, creativity, and a sense of responsibility. As they collaborate on projects, our students develop vital skills like communication and leadership, all while nurturing a deeper connection to the world around them.
