Character First

We strongly believe that the right Attitude and Mindset is the foundation for every success. As a school that is committed to character development, Axcel Intenational School incorporates character education into our curriculum. Character traits taught are then accentuated through providing meaningful character building experiences for our students. For instance, in emulating Japanese schools, students in Axcel International School are allocated duties to serve lunch, clean up after themselves and continue their cleaning duties by keeping their classrooms and school hallways clean. Students are taught to treat everyone with kindness and respect besides learning to establish and maintain positive relationships with others. We aim to integrate character development into every aspect of school life. Recently, students took part in activities centered around gratitude and endurance. They started with a treasure hunt, looking for people and places they were grateful for. Then, they worked on a puzzle while simulating a disability to help them appreciate what they have. For endurance, students discussed how to face tough situations and learned from real-life stories of perseverance. They also made videos about school culture and practiced endurance through fitness bingo and solving logic puzzles.

Some examples of characters in Character First Program that we instill to the students:

Determination

Students learnt to work together and be determined to walk from the starting point to the ending point by holding a ball in between of their arm.

Sensitivity

Students learnt to spot different emoticons on the cards. They were trained to care about people’s emotion.

Gratefulness

Students shared about something they are grateful for based on the colour they chose when the music stop.

Self-control

Students learnt to control themselves through music hula hoop.

mentor sharing programme

Our Mentor Sharing Programme for secondary school students brings senior industry experts to our school to share their experiences and inspire our students. The objectives of this program are to provide students with valuable insights into various career paths, enhance their understanding of real-world applications of their studies, and motivate them to pursue their passions with determination. By interacting with accomplished professionals, students gain firsthand knowledge of industry trends, develop a clearer vision of their future goals, and build a network of mentors who can guide them on their academic and professional journeys. This program not only broadens their perspectives but also instils confidence and ambition, empowering them to excel in their chosen fields.

Objectives

To inspire students to learn more about particular industry or subject matter;

Recognise the upsides and downside of particular industry or subject matter;

Apply the knowledge and lessons learned in the real world.

Mentoring is important, not only because of the knowledge and skills students can learn from mentors, but also because mentoring provides professional socialization and personal support to facilitate success in school and beyond.

Our Approach

Mentor would be given 1 – 1.5 hour to address the students in one group

The address could cover the following areas:

  • Introduction to the industry / subject matter;
  • Upsides and downside of the industry / subject matter;
  • Success and failures of the mentor;
  • Life outside the industry / subject matter

Given the students are in the 13-17 years old, expect there to be more activities / discussion during the address

Financial Intelligence

Bankruptcy among the young has been on a rise at an alarmingly rapid rate and the young generations are taking on debts at an earlier age while they lack knowledge in financial planning. Alan Greenspan, the former U.S Federal Reserve’s Chairman has highlighted that the number one problem in today’s generation and economy is the lack of financial literacy.
At Axcel Campus, we strongly believe financial intelligence is a must and should start from young as they are our future leaders. Our approaches to cultivate financial intelligence include, but not limited to the following:

Personal financial management

Analyse alternatives

Buying Real Assets

Do your homework – due diligence

Banking & Economics 101

Entrepreneur-based project learning

Study failures

Giving back mind-set

Boring educational material on money, credit, and investments can actually discourage people of all ages from learning valuable information that can help them make wise financial decisions. Fortunately, money management lessons masquerading as games can make learning about finance easy and even fun.
Students will learn as below through the games:

Basics of investing.

The difference between assets and liabilities.

The importance of understanding a financial statement.

Basic personal accounting.

Next Futurist

The term futurist applies to visionary leaders, innovators, thinkers and others who “look to the future”. Futurists instill new way of thinking in our fast and ever changing real world, and often challenge to transcend boundaries. Why is creativity important? Every field in the real world needs creative thinkers, those with the ability to “think outside of the box” will lead the future and make special things happen. Creativity makes life infinitely interesting and fulfilling. Human beings are essentially born creative–from infancy and the seeds of creativity live in everyone. However as pointed out in Sir Ken Robinson’s TED Talk on “how schools kill creativity”, he sketched out the unspoken tragedy of the education system: children losing their creativity because they are scared of being wrong. At Axcel International School, we strive to nourish the participants with creative experiences and confidence building responses to their attempts besides cultivate innovative & creative mind-set among the participants.

Life Skill Workshop

At our school, we organise a diverse array of workshops with external experts to enrich the educational experience of our secondary students. These workshops cover essential skills and topics such as presentation skills, financial intelligence, creativity and innovation, problem-solving strategies, and more. By bringing in specialists from various fields, we ensure that our students receive the most current and practical knowledge, directly from industry leaders and professionals. These interactive sessions are designed to complement our academic curriculum, providing students with valuable insights and hands-on experiences that are crucial for their personal and professional development.
The objectives of these workshops are to equip students with a well-rounded set of skills that go beyond traditional classroom learning. Students benefit from enhanced communication and presentation abilities, a deeper understanding of financial concepts, and the capacity to think creatively and solve problems effectively. These workshops foster critical thinking, encourage innovation, and build confidence, preparing our students to tackle real-world challenges with competence and poise. By participating in these workshops, students are better prepared for future academic pursuits and career opportunities, positioning them for success in a rapidly evolving world.

Rising Star

Our Rising Star program provides a dynamic platform for secondary students to showcase their diverse talents and interests. This exciting event features a wide range of performances, including singing, dancing, skits, and various other creative displays. By participating in Rising Star, students have the opportunity to express themselves artistically, explore their passions, and share their unique abilities with the school community. The program celebrates individuality and encourages students to step into the spotlight, fostering a sense of pride and accomplishment.
The objectives of Rising Star go beyond entertainment; the program aims to boost students’ confidence, enhance their performance skills, and promote a well-rounded development. Through preparation and participation, students learn valuable lessons in teamwork, stage presence, and time management. Additionally, the supportive environment of Rising Star helps to build a strong sense of community, as peers and faculty come together to celebrate and applaud the talents of each student. This enriching experience not only nurtures artistic abilities but also instils important life skills that contribute to students’ overall growth and success.

team building

Our Team Building Day for secondary students is a unique and empowering event where students take the lead in organising and executing a day filled with collaborative activities and challenges. This initiative allows students to plan, coordinate, and manage the entire event, providing them with hands-on experience in leadership and event management. By working together to design and implement team-building exercises, students learn the importance of cooperation, strategic planning, and effective communication. This immersive experience not only strengthens their organisational skills but also fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility.
The benefits of Team Building Day extend far beyond the event itself. As students engage in various group activities, they develop stronger interpersonal relationships and a deeper sense of camaraderie with their peers. The event encourages them to step out of their comfort zones, build trust, and enhance their problem-solving abilities. Additionally, the experience of organising and participating in Team Building Day helps to build self-confidence and resilience. By overcoming challenges and achieving common goals, students gain valuable insights into teamwork and leadership, preparing them for future academic and professional endeavours. This program ultimately contributes to the holistic development of our students, equipping them with essential life skills that will serve them well in all areas of life.
